How Hawai'i Reps. Neil Abercrombie and Mazie K. Hirono and Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel K. Inouye voted in key legislation last week.

    KEY HOUSE VOTES

    1. Medicaid Safety Net Act

The House voted 349-62 Wednesday to pass a measure protecting Medicaid funds for health care to the poor from being cut by $13 million over the next five years. The bill delays a number of changes in the program for a year. The White House has threatened to veto the bill despite the veto-proof margin. The bill now goes to the Senate.

    Mazie K. Hirono (D) YEA

    KEY SENATE VOTES

There were no contentious Senate votes this week.

    WHAT'S AHEAD

The Senate may debate a Federal Aviation Administration bill that would, among other things, increase the maximum age for pilots and require airlines and airports to develop plans to deal with stranded passengers. Re-authorizing the National Flood Insurance Program also could come up on the agenda. The House is expected to vote on a Senate-passed bill that would prohibit employers and health insurers from requiring genetic tests or discriminating based on such tests. Work on a compromise on a new farm bill also will continue.
