Karel Tresnak Jr. of Kailua and Lauren Bartlett of Maui paddled to victories in record time in the Steinlager Kaiwi Channel OC1 Solo World Championships today.

Tresnak won the men's division for a record seventh time with a record time of 3 hours, 38 minutes, 3 seconds. Bartlett won the women's division with a record time of 4:20:47.

More than 90 paddlers from around the world participated in the race, which is considered the world championship for long-distance paddling on one-person canoes (also known as OC1s).

The 32-mile course started at Kaluako'i Beach, Moloka'i, and finished at Koko Marina, O'ahu.

Tresnak took the lead midway across the Kaiwi Channel, and ended up winning by more than seven minutes. Maui's Kai Bartlett — who won the race last year and is Lauren Bartlett's husband — finished second in 3:45:50. Danny Ching of California was third in 3:48:42.

Bartlett led the women's division from start to finish. Maui's Emily Janchevis placed second in 4:38:57.
