DES MOINES, Iowa — Drake has hired Arizona State assistant Mark Phelps as its new men's basketball coach.
Phelps' hiring was announced this morning at a news conference. He will replace Associated Press Coach of the Year Keno Davis. Davis left the Bulldogs last week to take the job at Providence.
Phelps is a veteran assistant who had worked under Herb Sendek since 1996, first at North Carolina State and then Arizona State. Davis left Drake after taking the school to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1971.
