Kane'ohe gymnast on regional select squad

Matthew Leong, a level 10 gymnast who trains at the Hawaiian Island Twisters Gym, earned a spot on the Regional Select Gymnastics Team and will compete in the national championships.
Leong, 16, a sophomore at Le Jardin Academy who lives in Kane'ohe, placed ninth in the all-around competition with a score of 78.75 at the Region 1 Junior Olympic Regional Boys Gymnastics Championships on April 3 in Reno, Nev.
Leong also finished third in the pommel horse, scoring 13.4.
Joshua Yee, a level 9 gymnast also with the Hawaiian Island Twisters Gym and in the eighth grade at Myron B. Thompson School, earned an all-around score of 72.75 in Reno and also qualified to compete in the national championships.
The Boys Junior Olympic National Championships will take place May 8 to 11 in Battle Creek, Mich.
