Advertiser Staff

The Army's top environmental award will be presented in a 9 a.m. ceremony today to the Hawaii Army National Guard for its efforts to restore Diamond Head Crater to a more natural condition.

Tad Davis, deputy assistant Secretary of the Army for Environment, Safety and Occupational Health, will present the award to Hawaii Army National Guard officials at the Hawaii Department of Defense Conference Room, 3949 Diamond Head Road.

Guard staff members working on the restoration project removed and recycled more than 14 tons of particulate metal and cleaned 30,000 tons of soil during the cleanup effort, according to a news release.
