Nike's recycling its Reuse a Shoe contest. Instead of throwing away your tennies, dress them up and add them to the pile in Waikiki from 9 a.m. to noon April 27 for fun and prizes. At 2 p.m. an antique fire truck filled with shoes collected by firefighters arrives. There will also be free Jamba Juice refreshments, face painting, music, giveaways and environmental displays; www.nikereuseashoe.com or 983-5804.

Those are some tips from ShopSmart, the Consumer Reports monthly.
