'American Idol'-style gospel show to hold auditions

Sing gospel?

The Gospel Music Channel, a cable TV network, is searching for the next gospel-Christian music superstar, and auditions will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the GMC tent at the Wal-Mart store in Mililani, at 95-550 Lanikuhana Ave.

Singers will compete on the channel's "Gospel Dream 2008;" think "American Idol" with a religious boost.

Day-long festivities ar planned, with karaoke-style singing, games, activities and prizes.

Solo performers, aged 18 to 40, may compete. The day's best singer will win a trip for two to Atlanta to audition for "Gospel Dream"

judges.

Fifteen contestants will be move to the semi-finals, with finalists competing June 28 in Nashville.

The Gospel Music Channel was launched earlier this month and reaches 40 million homes nationwide. In Hawai'i, the show is available to DirectTV customers.
