C & K IN CONCERT

Hawaiian folk-rock musicians Cecilio Rodriguez and Henry Kapono began their story on O'ahu's North Shore in February 1973. The duo has been awarded eight Na Hoku Hanohano awards and each of them has launched a successful, individual career.

C & K will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Doors open at 7 p.m. with guitarist and vocalist Jim Major as the opening act.

DENVER'S BEER FEST

According to the Guinness World Records, the Great American Beer Festival at the Colorado Convention Center offers more beers than any other in the world.

This annual festival features some 375 breweries and a sublime 1,600 craft beers. Categories cover every conceivable beer, from Viennese to German dunkel and schwarzbier, American-style lagers, English bitters, Belgian ales and the more experimental flavored beers.

BEIJING'S ICE AND SNOW FESTIVAL

The Chinese turn winter into a poetic and colorful fiesta of ice and light. The majestic Longqing Gorge near Beijing is the scene for fireworks, ice sculptures and ice fishing. Massive blocks of ice are carved into animals and figures of all shapes and sizes.

Longqing Gorge, known as "little Li River" in northern China, is 56 miles northwest of Beijing. To arrive is to enter an ice and snow world in the Old City of Nine Windings, as the ancients called it. Look for the famous ice lanterns, which are made of ice and hold in their center a glowing orb of light which catches the glint of the figures from afar. Free. www.longqingxia.cn.
