Businesses penalized for rules violations

The Honolulu Liquor Commission this week fined one business $2,000 and five others $1,000 for violating rules on selling alcohol to minors.
The commission took the following actions at its regular meeting Thursday:
Hale'iwa Joe's Seafood Grill (no contest) was fined $2,000 for a repeat violation of selling liquor to a minor.
Imperial Chinese Restaurant, Chez Monique, Cheerleaders Sportsbar & Grill, Yohei Sushi Restaurant and New Mui Kwai Chop Suey each fined $1,000 for selling alcohol to a minor. Each business had pleaded no contest to the charge.
Cabana's Pool Bar (no contest) was fined $200 for violating two rules on signage.
New Violet's Grill was found in default for selling liquor to a minor. The commission continued the penalty phase to allow the licensee to appear.
During the public hearings portion of the meeting, the commission:
Approved the application from Kyo-ya Management Co. Ltd. for the transfer of the business and dispenser general license of Kyo-ya Co. Ltd. (dba Kyo-ya) at 2057 Kalakaua Ave.
Approved the application from Yanax Inc. (dba Furusato Sushi) for a restaurant general license at 2424 Kalakaua Ave., space No. 120 (Hyatt Regency Waikiki).
Approved the application from Red Lion LLC for a cabaret general license at 2424 Kalakaua Ave., space No. 120A (Hyatt Regency Waikiki).
During the request portion of the meeting, the commission:
Approved the request from F.L. Inc (dba Don Ho's Island Grill) to temporarily extend its licensed premises from 3 p.m. Sept. 21 to 2 a.m. Sept. 22. The commission also requested the licensee to consult with the commission's enforcement staff regarding security measures.
Denied the requested action from Uniclubs International (dba The Varsity, 1015 University Ave., #17) to declare the filing of the applicant's stand-alone temporary license application as timely.
