Keegan Edwards of Honolulu and Isaac Kaneshiro of 'Ewa Beach took top honors at the final event of the Steinlager Shaka Longboard Series last weekend at Kuhio Beach, Waikiki.

Edwards won the pro-am division Saturday to claim the $1,200 first prize. It was his first victory of the series.

Kaneshiro placed third, and clinched the overall series championship. He reached the finals in three of the five contests in the series, including a victory in the first contest at Sunset Beach.

Duane DeSoto of 'Ewa placed second in the final contest, and also finished second in the overall series standings. DeSoto won three contests in the series, but missed the first event due to a scheduling conflict.

The Steinlager Series was created this year as a way to keep Hawai'i's longboard surfers active in competition.

In addition to the pro-am division, the series featured amateur divisions for age groups ranging from menehune (14-younger) to legends (60-older).

All surfers in the series had to use boards at least 9 feet long.Kaua'i tandem wins world tour title

KAUA'I TANDEM WINS WORLD TOUR TITLE

The Kaua'i tandem of Kalani Vierra and Blanche Yoshida won the final event of the World Tandem Tour last week at Santander, Spain, to clinch the 2007 world tour championship.

Their victory leaves no doubt about the 2007 world championship, because Vierra and Yoshida also won the World Title of Tandem Surfing last month at Kuhio Beach, Waikiki.

Making it more impressive, Vierra and Yoshida are in their first year as tandem surfing partners. In tandem surfing, the male surfs on an extra-large board while hoisting the female into various acrobatic positions.

The Waikiki contest was not part of the world tour.

The world tour consisted of five events around the world. Vierra and Yoshida won three events.

The French team of Rico Leroy and Sarah Burel won the other two contests on the tour and placed second overall.

The Waikiki tandem of Chuck Inman and Tiffany Rabacal placed second in Spain, and finished third overall on the tour.
