OSU guard Perry suffers leg injury

Oregon State offensive guard Jeremy Perry (Kahuku '03 of Hau'ula) sustained a lower left leg injury Thursday that could keep the 2006 Pac-10 Conference first-teamer sidelined for up to six weeks.

Perry, who is a Lombardi (top lineman or linebacker) and Outland (top interior lineman) trophy candidate, was injured on a running play during the fourth quarter of the Beavers' 24-7 win over Utah.

The 6-foot-2, 324-pound junior has started 24 games for OSU and was the 2005 Pac-10 co-Freshman of the Year.

"It's disappointing news, but I know Jeremy will rehabilitate from this injury and return to the lineup," Beavers head coach Mike Riley said in a release.

  • Navy junior quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada (Kapolei '04 of Kapolei) scored on a 44-yard run in a 30-19 win over Temple. Kaheaku-Enhada finished with 102 rushing yards on 15 carries and completed 3 of 7 passes for 78 yards.

  • Colorado senior linebacker Jordan Dizon (Waimea '04) collected 20 tackles (15 solo), a forced fumble and a pass breakup in a 31-28 win over rival Colorado State.

  • California junior defensive tackle Mika Kane (Kamehameha '05 of Honolulu) had five tackles in a 45-31 win over No. 15 Tennessee.

    Vols' senior defensive tackle J.T. Mapu (Kahuku '02 of Kahuku) had one tackle.

  • Washington senior defensive tackle Wilson Afoa (Saint Louis '03 of Honolulu) had four tackles and half a sack in a 42-12 win at Syracuse. Junior defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim (Hawai'i Prep '05 of Waikoloa) added two tackles, including a sack.

  • Montana-Western senior quarterback Keali'i Perbera (Saint Louis '04 of Mililani) rushed for a touchdown and passed for another, but the Bulldogs lost their season-opener to Eastern Washington, 52-13. Perbera completed 14 of 34 passes for 161 yards.

    Backup quarterback Kekoa Crowell (Kaua'i '04 of Lihu'e) completed 2 of 6 passes for 12 yards and rushed twice for 17 yards.

    WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

  • Two former Hawai'i prep stars helped San Jose State win the Arkansas State/Bancorp South Classic last weekend in Jonesboro, Ark.

    Junior libero Kristal Tsukano (Kamehameha '05 of Honolulu) had 16 digs and two assists and freshman outside hitter Brianna Amian (Moanalua '07 of Honolulu) five digs and a kill, but the Spartans fell to host Arkansas State in the tournament's final day. The Spartans beat Northwestern State (La.) and Murray State (Tenn.) to claim the title.

  • Washington sophomore libero Tamari Miyashiro (Kalani '05 of Honolulu) had 42 digs in victories over Gonzaga, Boise State and Morgan State at the Gonzaga Tournament.

  • Hofstra senior libero Shellane Ogoshi (Roosevelt '04 of Honolulu) was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) co-Player of the Week after leading the Pride to the Orange and Green Challenge title. Ogoshi, who was selected to the preseason All-CAA team, averaged 5.62 digs per game over three matches and is 10th in career digs (1,200) and third in assists (3,691) at Hofstra.

  • Saint Mary's (Calif.) middle blocker Megan Burton ('Iolani '06 of Kapolei) was named to the Wildcat Classic All-Tournament team. The 6-foot-2 sophomore had 20 blocks in three wins and had a .321 hitting percentage. Burton put away 13 kills Saturday against Cal State Bakersfield and 20 Monday at Fresno State. Saint Mary's won both matches. Freshman setter Kapua Kamana'o ('Iolani '07 of Honolulu) is also on the roster.

  • Colgate freshman setter Logan Keala (Kamehameha '07 of Kane'ohe) had 55 assists, 10 digs and five block assists to help the Raiders beat Rhode Island in the Colgate Classic. She had 15 assists and 12 digs as Colgate defeated Niagara in an earlier tournament match.

  • Georgia State senior outside hitter Amy Lusk (Kalaheo '03) was named MVP of the Georgia State Invitational. Lusk had 20 kills and 30 digs against Chattanooga. East Tennessee State senior outside hitter Kaena Apana (Nanakuli '04 of Wai'anae) was named to the All-Tournament team.

  • Nevada freshman outside hitter Kylie Harrington (St. Francis '07 of Honolulu) suffered a broken hand early in preseason, but could return as early as this weekend according to head coach Devin Scruggs. The Wolf Pack hosts Washington State, UNLV and Hofstra in the AT&T Invitational.

    CROSS COUNTRY

  • California senior Pippa Macdonald (Punahou '03 of Kailua) finished 20th (19:08.30) at the San Francisco Invitational at Golden Gate Park. Bears freshman Peter Deptula (Punahou '06 of Mililani) took 25th (27:20.80) in the men's race.

  • Creighton senior Kari Tanimoto (Pearl City '04 of Waipahu) finished eighth (20:35) at the Creighton/Nebraska-Omaha Invitational Saturday.

    MEN'S SOCCER

  • Saint Mary's (Calif.) junior midfielder Justin Kim (Mililani '04 of Mililani) was named to the Davidson Adidas Classic All-Tournament team. Kim, who transferred from Bowling Green, had both assists in a 2-0 win over host Davidson.

    WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • Two former Punahou teammates were reunited Friday in San Diego when No. 22 Duke played Pepperdine. Waves junior defender Kelsey Baker (Punahou '05 of Honolulu) and Blue Devils senior goal keeper Allison Lipsher (Punahou '04 of Hawai'i Kai) both started the match, which ended scoreless. Lipsher made nine saves.

  • Whitworth senior midfielder Erin Nakasone (Mililani '04 of Mililani) scored a goal in a 6-0 season-opening victory over Trinity (Texas).

    COMMITMENTS

  • Waipahu senior Robert Donley will play basketball at Holy Names University (Oakland, Calif.), according to head coach Dennis Jones.

  • Holy Names women's basketball head coach Steve Spencer announced four signings from Hawai'i: Jamie-Leigh Ronolo (Moanalua), Danielle Lovell (Wai'anae), C'ani Kealoha (Farrington) and Janiene Sablan (Farrington).

  • Hoku Nohara (Kamehameha '07) has signed with New Mexico State to play softball.

    CORRECTION

    Suaesi Tuimaunei (Kahuku '06 of La'ie) is a redshirt freshman safety at Oregon State. He was omitted from a previous list of Division I football players from Hawai'i on the Mainland.
