Most football teams can't do much in 27 seconds of game time.

Farrington found a way to score three times for 15 points during that span late in the first half last night to beat Campbell, 30-7, in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Division quarterfinal at Roosevelt.

"We were just waiting for our opportunity and the boys took the opportunity and ran with it," said Farrington coach Randall Okimoto.

Farrington, ranked No. 9 in The Advertiser's statwide poll, will play Leilehua in Saturday's semifinals at Aloha Stadium. Wai'anae will face Kapolei in the other semifinal.

Farrington, the East runner-up, improved to 5-2-2 overall and 5-1-1 in league play. Campbell, the West's No. 3 team, ends its season at 3-4-1, 3-4.

Kalei Stevens started the Governors' scoring spree by returning a punt 46 yards for a score with 1:38 left before halftime.

Campbell started its next possession at its 20 after a touchback. After an incompletion, a Sabers running back was drilled after taking a handoff and fumbled the ball straight up in the air. It was knocked around a bit and rolled into the end zone, where a Campbell lineman recovered for a safety, which made it 9-0 with 1:19 remaining.

Campbell's free kick sailed out of bounds at its 40, and the Governors' Iu Alefosiu hit Drake Miller on the next play for a touchdown with 1:11 left.

It was Farrington's only completion of the game.

Campbell scored on its first possession of the second half on a 6-yard run by Samson Anguay to make it 15-7.

The Sabers decided to get tricky on the first play of the fourth period by aligning four players wide left in a diamond formation — and it backfired. The Campbell quarterback attempted to lateral the ball to the deep player, but Governors linebacker Isaiah Iuta stepped in front of the intended receiver and ran it back 41 yards for a score.

Iuta said he knew the play was coming, courtesy of a solid scouting report.

"We had to practice against that this past week," he said. "So all I did was try and hit it as soon as possible."

The Governors went ahead 23-7 with 6:03 left on another safety. The Sabers quarterback was about to be sacked near the goal line and lateraled the ball to an unsuspecting teammate. The ball fell in the end zone and was recovered by Campbell.

In all, the Governors' defense scored 10 points.

"I don't think we scored all year on defense so they picked the right time to do it," Okimoto said.

The free kick was returned 59 yards by Jimmy Robinson to the Campbell 1. On the next play, Dayton Kealoha plowed in to make it 30-7 with 5:45 remaining.

Farrington managed just 115 yards of total offense, while Campbell gained 106 yards.

The Governors had only two plays from scrimmage go for 25-plus yards. The Sabers' longest offensive play was 13 yards.

"We thought it would be a defensive battle; both teams like to run the ball," Okimoto said.

Kealoha carried the ball 22 times for 65 yards. Three other Governors combined for 10 yards on nine carries.

"I had one fumble (in the third period); after that I felt I had to push more," he said.

Campbell's two quarterbacks were a combined 2 of 17 for 8 yards and two interceptions. The Sabers rushed 41 times for 98 yards.

"We had poor field position," said Campbell coach Tumoana Kenessey. "It felt like the whole game we were back past our own 20. It kind of limits what you can call."
