TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"E.T.," 7 p.m., ABC Family; or "Rain Man," 8 p.m., E. Take your pick here, with two high points in movie history. Both films can draw big laughs one moment and strong emotions the next. "E.T." is Steven Spielberg's masterful little film about a boy and his alien. "Rain Man" is a Barry Levinson film, with perfect counterpoint between a hard-charging schemer (Tom Cruise) and his savant brother (Dustin Hoffman).
OF NOTE
"Pretty Woman" (1990), 3:30 and 6 p.m., Lifetime. Julia Roberts' beautifully layered performance took a lunkheaded plot (prostitute meets rich guy) and turned it into a surprisingly involving story.
"The Gravedancers" (2006), 6 p.m., Sci Fi Channel. It's really not a good idea to dance on someone's grave. The characters here learn that, in a film for the darker side of Halloween.
"Without a Trace," 7 p.m., CBS. Shortly after making the winning basket, a high school basketball star disappears, in this rerun.
"CSI: Miami," 8 p.m., CBS. A Marine recruiter has been found dead on a shooting range, in this rerun. That may be linked to a death in Iraq.
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. Here's a rerun of Tuesday's episode. Aidan Quinn plays a man whose wife has been killed, with their mentally challenged daughter as the only witness.
"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. This is a rerun of the season-opener. LeBron James was the host and performed gamely; he did everything from playing an athlete (logically enough) to portraying a dancer from the old "Solid Gold" TV show. Kanye West is the musical guest.
