Prosecutors yesterday charged a Hawai'i Kai man with breaking into the McCully apartment of a woman early Tuesday morning and holding her against her will.
Kazuyuki Goto, 35, owner of the Hungry Lion restaurant in Nu'uanu, was charged at 12:15 p.m. yesterday with first-degree burglary and kidnapping. His bail was set at $100,000 pending an initial appearance today in District Court.
According to an affidavit filed in the court, Goto entered the 29-year-old woman's Kaiolu Street apartment at 3:30 a.m. by breaking the door and began to punch, kick and slap her. He allegedly told her in Japanese, "I love you so much, how come you don't understand?" and "Don't make me mad," the document said.
The woman, who is general manager of a nightclub, told police she has known Goto as a customer for about 2 1/2 months.
The woman said she grabbed Goto's hair and kicked him in the face so she could flee from the apartment.
Goto was arrested later Tuesday at his restaurant.
