Shogun to close at Pacific Beach

Pacific Beach Corp. yesterday announced that Shogun Restaurant at Waikiki's Pacific Beach Hotel will close Dec. 1.
That's the word from the affiliate of HTH Corp., which assumes management of the Pacific Beach Hotel on Dec. 1.
"The Shogun concept was very successful since its inception. However, in the last several years it has not generated the customer numbers that it had in the past," said Robert "Mick" Minicola, HTH Corp. regional vice president of operations. He declined to specify what restaurant might replace the 148-seat Shogun.
Minicola said the restaurant's 55 employees may find employment in other departments.
DEBIT CARDS HAVE 'TAP N GO' CHIP
First Hawaiian Bank said it has begun issuing debit cards with an embedded computer chip that allows customers to "Tap N Go" when making purchases.
The bank's Priority Rewards card contains a MasterCard PayPass chip that reduces transaction times at stores. Instead of sliding cards through a reader, people can tap their debit cards on a special terminal and the amount is automatically deducted from a checking account. Transactions under $25 don't require a signature to complete.
NEW CONDO OFFERS UNITS FOR RETAIL
The developer of a new condominium across from the Neal S. Blaisdell Center said it will sell four retail units on the ground floor of the project.
POSEC Hawaii Inc. said the units' pricing is competitive with the market for retail space on Kapi'olani Boulevard.
The spaces total about 4,500 square feet.
BARNWELL DIVISION GETS $1.9M CHECK
A land development partnership that's majority owned by Honolulu-based Barnwell Industries Inc. received a $1.93 million option payment relating to development rights within the Hualalai Resort, the company reported.
Barnwell said another $729,000 is still owed under the annual option payment, which constitutes the seventh of 10 remittances due under the development rights agreement.
KAILUA FIRM CITED FOR HR SOFTWARE
Nobscot Corp., a Kailua-based maker of human resources software, is being spotlighted as one of the top 10 HR products for 2007 as identified by the editors of Human Resource Executive magazine.
Nobscot's Mentor Scout Talent Networking Edition was cited by the magazine as a way for companies to facilitate employee communication, collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
