WHO'S KEEPING HAWAI'I GREEN
Hawaii Home + Remodeling's Who's Keeping Hawai'i Green Program honored 17 organizations and individuals recently for their sustainable practices aimed at preserving the environment.
The recognition honors businesses, individuals and organizations for their programs to preserve and enhance our environment — doing their part to keep Hawai'i "green."
Sponsors for the event include Gentry Homes, the state Department of Business Economic Development & Tourism, HI-5 Deposit Beverage Container Program (state Department of Health), Puna Geothermal Venture, Bank of Hawaii, Hawaiian Electric Company, Glaceau SmartWater and Hagadone Printing.
A portion of the event's proceeds will benefit The Kokua Hawai'i Foundation, a supporter of environmental education in schools and communities.
The categories and honorees include:
Government Public Agency Program: County of Maui, Wastewater Reclamation Division; Steve Parabicoli, manager.
Business with Green Program: Kona Brewing Co., Mattson Davis.
Business with Longstanding Green Program: Hawaiian Mahogany Co., Bill Cowern, founder and president.
Business with Green Purpose: Provision Technologies Inc., Marco Mangelsdorf, president, and Douglas Bath, vice president.
Architect: Ferraro Choi and Associates, Joseph Ferraro, co-founder and co-principal.
Developer: The Dowling Co., Everett Dowling, president.
Educational Resource: The Green House, Betty Gearen.
Nonprofit: Ma'o Farms, Gary and Kukui Maunakea-Forth, managers.
Individual Educator: Gail Grabowsky, Chaminade University.
Green Pioneer: Ron Westmoreland, Hawaiian Earth Products.
Contractor: Gentry Homes, Robert Brant, chief executive officer.
Engineer: Lincolne Scott, Scott Inatsuka, president.
Green Building Champion: Dev Braganza, vice president, Hunt Development Group.
Green Entrepreneur: Darren Kimura, president and chief executive officer, Sopogy Inc.
Lifetime Achievement: Chuck Burrows.
