A 20-year-old Schofield Barracks soldier accused of dormitory break-ins at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa campus is a suspect in additional cases including a sex assault, prosecutors said yesterday in court.
Mark Andrew Heath, accused of unauthorized entry into a dwelling and first-degree burglary, was identified as a suspect in other cases by deputy prosecutor Keith Seto, who urged the judge to not grant supervised release to the soldier.
District Judge Edwin C. Nacino denied supervised release and ordered Heath held on $100,000 bail. He will be arraigned at Circuit Court on Dec. 13.
MOPED RIDER CRITICALLY INJURED
Police criminal and traffic investigators were looking into a moped accident at Punchbowl last night in which a man was critically injured.
The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, said city emergency services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.
The incident on Lusitana Street near Ohelo Lane was reported at 8:05 p.m. and involved a collision between a car and moped, police said. A third vehicle may also have been involved.
MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED RAPE
Prosecutors yesterday charged a 38-year-old man with allegedly breaking into a Waialua home and attempting to rape a woman.
Mark Stephen Panela, who listed no local address, was charged at 1 p.m. with first-degree burglary, first-degree attempted sex assault and kidnapping.
According to a court affidavit, the woman, 49, was awakened Wednesday morning by a man holding her down in the bedroom of her Waialua Beach Road home. The woman told police the man showed her a knife and tied her hands behind her back.
The woman screamed and began fighting off her attacker. Her neighbor called police.
