Wilson has 5-shot lead in state golf

PGA Tour pro Dean Wilson, a Castle High graduate, shot an 8-under-par 64 yesterday to take a five-stroke lead after the first round of the Prince Resorts Hawai'i/TaylorMade Hawai'i State Open.
Wilson shot 33-31 at the Hawai'i Prince Golf Club.
Bradley Shigezawa, a 15-year-old Punahou School student, is second with 35-34. David Ishii, who is seeking his fourth State Open title, shares third at 70 with Lorens Chan and Kevin Carll.
Ron Kiaaina Jr. and Leland Lindsay share the senior division lead with 71s.
Nicole Sakamoto (73) leads Kristina Merkle by one stroke in the women's division.

LAJOLA ADVANCES
'Aiea's Dennis Lajola advanced, but Honolulu's Chris Lam was eliminated yesterday in the quarterfinals of the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Honolulu Futures tennis tournament at the University of Hawai'i courts.
Lajola slid into the semifinals with a "walkover" against fourth-seeded Carsten Ball because of an illness. He will play Ty D Trombetta today, following the first semifinal between Lance Vodicka and Shane La Porte at 11 a.m.
Vodicka used his unusual forehand — which accelerates in a whip motion to maximize racket head speed — to keep Lam moving en route to a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
TOP SEEDS REACH FINAL
Top-seeded Jing Jing Liu and Gurianna Smith defeated Loni Matsunaga and Fleurette Houser, 6-1, 6-3, last night in the semifinals of the Lanikai Body and Bath Women's Night Doubles at the Kailua Racquet Club.
Second-seeded Elwen Li and Maggie Deng beat Kelly Little and Janalle Kaloi, 6-2, 6-0, in the other semifinal.

BEACHBOYS CLOSING IN
Yutaka Tamaki pitched seven strong innings as the Waikiki BeachBoys beat the Honolulu Sharks, 5-2, yesterday to move closer to clinching Hawaii Winter Baseball's East Division title.
The BeachBoys (18-18-1) can clinch the title and a berth in Monday's league championship game against North Shore by beating the Sharks (16-19-2) today in a noon game at Hans L'Orange Park.
Tamaki (4-0) yielded five hits and an unearned run while striking out three and walking two.
Antoan Richardson had two hits and three RBIs, and second baseman Justin Sellers hit an RBI double and played solid defense for Waikiki.
In the nightcap, Logan Ondrusek struck out six in five innings to lead North Shore over the West Oahu, 5-2.
