Two pedestrians were critically injured yesterday in accidents in McCully and Nanakuli.
A 62-year-old woman suffered severe head injuries when she was struck by a car driven by a 90-year-old man about 11:20 a.m. on South King Street near the corner of Hauoli Street.
The woman was walking in a marked crosswalk on King Street when she was struck by a 1998 Toyota sedan, police said. She was identified as Gwen Isa, an AARP volunteer who participated in the study that identified the island's 50 most dangerous intersections, said AARP spokesman Bruce Bottorff.
"Ironically, it's exactly the location that she audited," Bottorff said.
The man driving the car was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, traffic investigators said.
Speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the accident, police said.
A man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition following a 4:09 p.m. pedestrian accident reported on Farrington Highway near the intersection with Princess Kahanu Avenue.
