The seventh annual "Gingerbread Tree Project" to provide less fortunate families with food for the holiday season will be set up in Kona to begin taking donations Nov. 23.

Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to meet the needs of these families by purchasing a Gingerbread Man or Woman from one of the Gingerbread Trees at either the Movie Gallery Store in the North Kona Coast Shopping Center, or Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua.

Each gingerbread person represents a gift certificate to a local grocery store that will be provided to families who are clients of Family Support Services.

The Gingerbread people on the tree range in price from $10 to $50, but monetary donations of any size will be accepted.

Tax deductible donations may also be made over the phone with a credit card by calling either Family Support Services at 334-4103 or Movie Gallery at 329-4599.

About 480 people per year have benefited from the food provided through the project, and sponsors hope to feed at least 600 people this year.
