Hawaii judoka earn gold at Jita Kyoei Cup

Twelve Hawai'i judoka captured 18 medals at the Jita Kyoei Cup in Lima, Peru, last Saturday.
The Hawai'i athletes won 12 gold medals, three silver and three bronze.
Several Hawai'i athletes won more than one medal in the event, where Team USA won the grand champion award after capturing 28 gold medals.
Mindy Chow, of Honolulu, captured three gold medals in Juvenile A (53 kilograms), Juvenile B (52 kilograms) and Women (52 kilograms).
Joshua Terao, of Honolulu, went undefeated, winning gold in the Infantile 2 (11-12) 31-kilogram category and moving up to take the gold in Juvenile A (13-14) 36-kilogram division.
Nicole Taniguchi, of Ho-nolulu, also was undefeated while fighting up, winning the Juvenile A (40 kilograms) division and the Juvenile B (44 kilograms) division.
Dane Pestano, of Waimanalo, also won the Infantile 2 (53-plus kilograms) and Juvenile A (64-plus kilogram) divisions.
Also winning gold in Infantile 2 was Jessica Oda of Mililani, (28 kilograms) and Brendan Chang, of Honolulu (34 kilograms). Chang also won bronze in the Juvenile A (36 kilograms).
In the Juvenile A 48-kilogram division, Bree Rapoza of Ho-nolulu won the gold medal and took the silver in the Intermediate 2 (53 kilograms) division.
