Cypriano has been booking the talent at thePagoda hotel's LaSalle Lounge, which has been undergoing a resurgence of entertainment these past few weeks. Former singing partner Melveen Leed joined Cypriano onstage recently in Cypriano's signature version of "You Are So Beautiful," the Joe Cocker anthem adapted with Hawaiian lyrics, as Krista Duncan danced. It was a crowd-pleasing moment, prompting Leed to announce that the Local Divas would restart sometime next year, reuniting Cypriano, Leed and Carole Kai. The Divas, a foursome, disbanded after integral member Loyal Garner died. Stay tuned. ...

THE PARTY LINE: "American Idol" finalist Jasmine Trias turned 21 last Saturday, and to celebrate, she flew to Las Vegas for a birthday party at Tony and Karen Ruivivar's home in Henderson. (Ruivivar is the SOS honcho, of course.) Trias' parents, Rudy and Nora Trias, also flew over for the celebration, attended by the SOSers and locals like Frannie Kirk. Jasmine has performed with the band several times in Honolulu and at the Flamingo hotel in Vegas, usually as relief for Lani Misalucha. ...

After midnight on her b-day, Trias was legally able to gamble. Her pals donated $50 apiece for her maiden stint on the machines. Celebrants included singer Martin Nievera, who flew in from Los Angeles; he sang "The Prayer" with Misalucha. Trias and little sister Neolani also sang, with SOSers Wayne Wakai and Roy Guerzo tending to music. ...

A belated birthday blast also is scheduled for Trias from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Nov. 16 at the Pearl Ultra Lounge (KUMU 94.7 is involved), where the champagne, pink-themed gathering will include music, emcees, a fashion show and boutique items by Blue Buddha. Lincoln Jacobe's Hawai'i Pacific Entertainment is producing the gala, with a midnight champagne toast by Trias. The party will launch Trias' forthcoming weekly lifestyle TV show on OC 16, "Pacific Groove," on which Jacobe is executive producer. The show will be splashed across Pearl's luxe lounge screens for the party. Tickets: $10 at the door. ...

They turned out in full force at the Na Mele Nei concert last Sunday to celebrate the release of "The Watercolor Cat," the book by Shelly Mecum with illustrations by the remarkably resilient Peggy Chun. The array of entertainers included Yvonne Elliman. Keith and Carmen Haugen appeared as KFC, with the addition of pakini bucket bass performer Frank Uehara, along with the Holy Trinity Choir keiki (who sang "Come See Her Smile," the tune Daniel Ho recorded as a tribute to Chun), Pali and Wally "Famous" Amos, who read from "The Watercolor Cat." ...

Manoa DNA's "No Place Like Home" CD launch party was a blast last Sunday at Gordon Biersch, despite the rain. After Holunape and Bruce Shimabukuro took the stage, Ernie Cruz Jr. and The Girlas were performing when the winds howled and the skies parted with liquid blessing — sending folks for cover. Even with an improvised sound system, the troupers endured — Raiatea Helm, Melveen Leed, Chino Montero and Territorial Airwaves' Harry B. Soria Jr. had a jam session to remember, with Troy Fernandez (of Palolo and Ka'au Crater Boys) and Nathan Nahinu joining Montero for fun, fun, fun. ...

DINING PLATE: At the last day of business at Li May Tang's Shanghai Bistro at Discovery Bay, actor-singer Kevin Gray (playing Scar in Disney's "The Lion King" partook of the lunch buffet, as did ex-columnist Eddie Sherman and wife Patty, and travel agent Valerie Davis. By cocktail hour, keyboardist Don Conover and fellow musician Bill Petty stopped by to bid Tang well. Count us among the fans of chef Chih-Chieh Chang, whose Asian fusion delights will emerge at Tang's other Chinese restaurant, Hong Kong Harbor View at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Tang's other longtime staple dining outlet is Royal Yakiniku at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. ...

Chef Mavro's Cassis Wine Bar downtown has added jazz to its menu, from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. John Valentine is a Thursday regular, and Cheryl and Bobby are Friday performers, with Wednesday featuring alternating acts (Harana on Nov. 14, Bobby Nishida on Nov. 21 and Jeff Peterson on Nov. 28), with more alternating acts on Saturdays (James Kraft this week, Cheryl and Bobby Nov. 17, Louie and Bobby on Nov. 24). ...
