Pineapple deal seen as a boon

California-based Calavo Grower Inc. said it expects to post significant financial gains from its agreement to market Maui Gold fresh pineapples grown in Hawai'i by Maui Land & Pineapple Co.

Beginning Dec. 1, Calavo will sell, market and distribute Maui Gold pineapples throughout the continental United States and Canada.

"We anticipate that sales of Maui Gold fresh pineapples will contribute $25-$30 million in revenues for Calavo in fiscal 2008, as well as become immediately accretive to earnings," said Lee E. Cole, Calavo chairman, president and chief executive officer.
