Splitting school to be discussed
Advertiser Staff
Nanakuli residents are invited to a community meeting June 6 to discuss the logistics of separating seventh- and eighth-graders from high school students at Nanakuli High and Intermediate.
The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the school's multipurpose room. Advocates believe younger students should be separated to minimize the risk of bullying, intimidation and exposure to negative influences.
The Board of Education has endorsed the idea but said the community must be united. The meeting is an attempt to "stir a grass-root campaign for protecting all the students," state Rep. Karen Awana said in a news release.
