The state Department of Transportation yesterday dedicated $20 million worth of improvements at Kahului Airport.
The project included expansion of the ticket lobby at the west end of the terminal to provide new check-in counters with 24 computerized kiosks.
United, Northwest and US Air will move into the new space within a month, alleviating passenger congestion in the main lobby, said DOT spokesman Scott Ishikawa.
Other terminal improvements include additional baggage-claim carousels and an emergency generator building to provide backup power in the event of outages.
