The Halekulani's Lewers Lounge has been named one of the "Best Bars in America" by Esquire magazine. In a spread in its June issue, the magazine identifies bars worth visiting around the country. Lewers Lounge is the only Hawai'i establishment mentioned.
The short item suggests you have a mai tai (of course) and says the bar dates from "back when Hawai'i only attracted the better class of tourists." (Ouch!) "Jazz, wood, excellent drinks," the reviewer writes. "Clark Gable woulda loved it. In fact, he did."
NEW MENU
MATCHES MADE IN BEER HEAVEN
Kona Brewing Co. in Hawai'i Kai has revamped its menu to feature beer-infused dishes to go with its fresh-brewed beers. Chef Dan York oversees the menu at the restaurant, which is at Koko Marina Center, corner of Kalaniana'ole Highway and Lunalilo Home Road.
Among the new dishes: kettle chip-crusted fish with Big Wave Golden Ale butteryaki sauce, Pu'u O'o vent 'ahi with Lavaman Beer roasted red sauce and miso passion baked fresh fish with Lilikoi Wheat Ale.
