Ching's goal lifts Dynamo

Dwayne De Rosario scored twice and Hale'iwa's Brian Ching added one goal to help the Houston Dynamo beat the host Colorado Rapids, 3-1, yesterday in a Major League Soccer game at Commerce City, Colo.
De Rosario scored his first goal of the season in the 63rd minute off an assist from Ricardo Clark, and added an unassisted goal in the 68th minute.
Roberto Brown gave Colorado a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the fifth minute.
Ching, a Kamehameha Schools alum, scored in the 55th minute to tie it. Both teams are 2-2-1.
SOFTBALL
HPU SWEEPS PAIR
Ciera Senas, Nicole Kalakau, and Danielle Young each drove in two runs as Hawai'i Pacific defeated Chaminade, 11-2, yesterday to sweep a women's softball doubleheader at HPU Windward Field.
HPU's Sherise Musquiz and Courtney Kessell combined on a four-hitter in a game that was shortened to five innings because of the 10-run differential rule.
Nicole Riviera and Young had two RBIs to lead HPU over Chaminade, 18-0, in the first game that was cut to five innings. Musquiz and Clerisse Lemke teamed on a two-hit shutout. HPU improved to 34-14; Chaminade dropped to 8-41.
SURFING
PERKINS ADVANCES
One Hawai'i surfer advanced and another was eliminated at the Oxbow Pro World Longboard Championship yesterday.
The entire fourth round and two heats of the quarterfinals were completed in 4-foot waves at Anglet, France.
Bonga Perkins of Hale'iwa won his fourth round heat, defeating Brazil's Eduardo Bage, 11.75-10.6.
Perkins is scheduled to face Australia's Jackson Close in a quarterfinal heat. That heat was postponed yesterday due to deteriorating conditions.
Perkins, who won the world championship in 1996, is the only former world champion remaining in the contest.
Keegan Edwards of Honolulu also won his fourth round heat, but was then eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Edwards beat Brazil's Jamie Viudes, 9.9-7.2, then lost to another Brazilian Carlos Bahia, 11.75-7.5, in the quarterfinals.
The winner of the Oxbow Pro will be crowned the 2007 world champion of longboard surfing.
GOLF
KANEKO TIED FOR 43RD
Honolulu's Ayaka Kaneko shot a 6-over-par 78 yesterday and was tied for 43rd after the third round of the Salonpas World Ladies Cup. The Japan LPGA event is played at the Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club.
Kaneko, a 17-year-old Sacred Hearts junior, was at 10-over 226, 15 shots behind leaders Karrie Webb and Mi Jeong Jeon.
