Kane'ohe's Andy Ramos placed fifth in the NAS Inc. 2007 Golden State Pro/Amateur Strongman challenge, April 21, at the Fresno State University campus.

It was Ramos' first strongman competition, which featured 23 amateurs from around the country. They tested their strength in five events: hand-over-hand semi-truck pull, axle press for reps, Ford Mustang car lift, 330-pound farmers walk and stairs, and atlas stones loading.

The 6-foot-3, 350-pound Ramos and four others qualified for the NAS Inc. Nationals in November at Las Vegas, Nev.

Ramos works for Hawaiian Airlines and coaches football at his alma mater, Castle High School. He also played semi-pro football in Hawai'i for the Hammerheads and Hurricanes.
