Brush fire chars land, no homes

An early afternoon brush fire in the hills outside Kahuku charred an unspecified amount of land yesterday before being brought under control at 2:30 p.m.
There was no threat to homes, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Terry Seelig.
Firefighters from the Kahuku fire station and a tanker from Ka'a'awa were called at 12:38 p.m. to Pualalea Street, which is behind agriculture lots on the Hale'iwa side of Kahuku Hospital, Seelig said.
Firefighters remained at the site for another hour soaking the scrub material to ensure that the dying embers wouldn't reignite, Seelig said.
