NEIL TAKEKAWA, former president and chief executive officer of Island Air, has been named president of local tour and transportation company, Roberts Hawaii. Takekawa is a 30-year veteran of the transportation industry in Hawai'i. Roberts — with a fleet of more than 1,000 vehicles and 1,400 employees — operates sightseeing tours on O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i and the Big Island.
JULIE ZADEH has joined the Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau. As new managing director of travel trade marketing, the certified travel professional will work with travel agencies, travel wholesalers and online providers in the Mainland U.S. and Canada. Zadeh was director of market management for lodging in Hawai'i for Expedia Inc. previously. She also spent 17 years at The Travel Place travel agency in Bellevue, Wash.
The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter (AIA Honolulu) has announced their 2007 board of directors, whose terms coincide with the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the national organization: president, Peter Vincent, architect, managing partner and founder, Peter Vincent Architects; vice president/president-elect, Sidney C.L. Char, architect and senior vice president, Wimberly Allison Tong and Goo; secretary, William Brizee, architect and principal, Architects Hawaii Ltd.; and, continuing a two-year term as treasurer is Jeffrey Nishi, architect founder and principal, Jeffrey Nishi & Associates/Architects. The local chapter represents more than 800 architects, associate members and allied professionals on O'ahu, Kaua'i and the Big Island. Celebration of AIA's 150th anniversary will include National Architecture Week, April 9-14, 2007. Activities include Architectural Walking Tours of historic downtown Honolulu and a display of AIA150 banners on King and Bishop Streets.
JESSE K. SOUKI, a former deputy corporation counsel for Maui County, is among three new associates named to the law firm of Imanaka Kudo & Fujimoto. He brings 10 years of local, state and government experience to the firm. Also hired were AUSTIN A. CHING, who spent several years at Weber Shandwick Worldwide, specializing in technology companies, and DANIEL S.T. KAMITAKI, a former executive editor of the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal and author of "Beyond E-Mail: Threats to Network Security and Privileged Information for the Modern Law Firm."
ResortQuest Hawaii has announced the promotion of Kukuiokalani Kaliko to front office manager at the ResortQuest Kauai Beach at Makaiwa. Previously the Kaua'i native was the front office supervisor at the hotel. She also had worked for Aloha Airlines, Uniglobe Travel and Grantham Resorts.
Rodney Ito has been named general manager of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa — for the second time. The 555-room property at the Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Big Island recently completed a $50 million renovation. The 22-year veteran of the hospitality industry takes over from Nihad Kattan, who has been appointed area vice president of Marriott International, Middle East and Africa. Most recently, Ito was director of operations at the 1,310-room Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on O'ahu. Ito, coincidently, also was general manager of the Waikoloa property when it was owned and managed by Outrigger Hotels and operated under a sales and marketing franchise agreement with Marriott International.
Keith DeMello has been promoted from senior account supervisor to vice president, public affairs, for McNeil Wilson Communications Inc. DeMello has been with MWC since November 1999, and oversaw a diverse range of clients, including Architects Hawaii Ltd. and the USS Missouri Memorial Association Inc. He is also the public relations chairman of the American Marketing Association - Hawaii Chapter.
Young Brothers Ltd. has hired Nami Ohtomo as manager of strategic planning and government affairs, with responsibility for the company's strategic plan, planning and developing the firm's harbor facilities and working with government agencies in planning and development. She will also analyze competitive, economic and regulatory changes. Prior to joining Young Brothers, Ohtomo worked as a senior environmental planner at Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas in Honolulu, and before that, as the natural resources policy analyst and GIS (Geographical Information Systems) manager at the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
T S Restaurants has promoted RITA KING to human resources manager, overseeing human resources at all seven Hawai'i restaurant locations, as well as federal and state regulation compliance policy for both Hawai'i and California locations. She was, most recently, T S Hawaii home office manager and executive assistant. The company owns and operates 12 restaurants in Hawai'i and California, including Duke's Waikiki and Hula Grill Waikiki; Kimo's, Leilani's Island Steakhouse, and Hula Grill Ka'anapali on Maui; Duke's Kaua'i and Keoki's Paradise on Kaua'i.
