UH-Hilo sweeps past Chicago State

Lars Knepper pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Chicago State, 12-3, last night to complete a sweep of a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Wong Stadium.
Dayne Ogawa and Jon Vitale each had three hits, and Michael Higa had a two-run double and two-run single as the Vulcans improved to 4-16.
Sean Murphy hit a solo homer for the Cougars (0-14).
In the opener, Ogawa and Ronel Trias had four hits apiece and the Vulcans amassed 19 hits en route to a 17-4 victory.
Higa drove in four runs, and Trias and Robby Mowers each had three RBIs for Hilo. Kaiana Trask allowed four hits and three runs in six innings while striking out five to earn the victory.
Luke Grow had three hits for Chicago State.

HAWAI'I TAKES TWO
Justine Smethurst pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts as Hawai'i defeated Liberty, 6-0, last night in the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Stadium.
Claire Warwick and Tyleen Tausaga each had two hits and Tanisha Milca drove in two runs for the Rainbow Wahine (19-5).
Dawn Jeffs had two hits for Liberty (8-5).
Earlier, Brandi Peiler hit a grand slam and solo shot, Warwick batted 4 for 4 and Milca also homered as Hawai'i held off Pacific, 8-6.
Jennifer Curtier had two hits and four RBIs for the Tigers (11-5).
HPU TAKES TWO, TOO
Nicole Kalakau hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Sherise Musquiz pitched a five-hitter as Hawai'i Pacific beat Notre Dame de Namur, 8-0, in five innings yesterday to complete a Pacific West Conference doubleheader sweep at Sea Warrior Field.
Lehua Yap drove in three runs and Nicole Riviera had two hits and two RBIs for the Sea Warriors (11-1, 4-0 PacWest).
Lindsay Crist had two hits for the Argos (7-26, 2-8).
In the opener, Tajia Acierto pitched a five-hitter, allowing just one earned run while striking out three and walking none, as HPU prevailed, 6-3.
