The red-hot University of Hawai'i women's basketball team continued to sizzle at Moscow, Idaho yesterday.

Pam Tambini had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Hawai'i got solid minutes from its reserves to smash the Vandals, 64-43.

"I thought it was a great team effort, again," Hawai'i acting coach Pat Charity said. "We had a nice lead, and we were able to get a lot of people playing time tonight."

The 'Bows extended their season-best Western Athletic Conference win streak to eight games despite playing without senior center Brittany Grice, who is nursing a lower leg injury.

Hawai'i (15-12 overall, 9-6 WAC) led by as many as 32 points in the second half against the Vandals (5-21, 2-13), and improved to 6-0 under Charity. Hawai'i head coach Jim Bolla will likely miss the remainder of the season recovering from lung surgery.

The 'Bows guaranteed themselves their second consecutive winning campaign, and they will end the regular-season at Boise State Saturday.

Boise State (20-8, 11-4) is the only WAC team the Rainbow Wahine haven't beaten this season.

"We tried to rest the starters as much as possible because we know we have Boise State, and we know they are very physical," Charity said.

Last night, Tanya Smith added 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Amy Kotani tied her career high with 12 points for UH.

In what has become her trademark, Charity played all 10 available players, and nine scored. Every player logged at least 14 minutes. The five reserves chipped in 14 points and 12 rebounds.

"The other kids came in and they were ready," Charity said. "They did a nice job, and they played some pretty good defense."

Idaho freshman center Katie Madison, the WAC's top scorer, finished with 26 points and seven rebounds.

She entered yesterday's game averaging 18.3 points per game in conference.

"We wanted to go at her early, and try to foul her out," Charity said. "But she got 26 points tonight. We played no post defense whatsoever. So obviously we had no game plan for her. She did what she wanted, when she wanted."

Despite Madison's outburst, Hawai'i never trailed in the game, and closed the first half on an 18-4 run to take a 34-16 lead at intermission.

The 'Bows stretched the lead to 20-plus points in the first five minutes of the second half, and took a 62-30 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers by freshman guard Megan Tinnin with less than six minutes to go.

Meanwhile, Grice remains "game-by-game" with a her lower leg injury, Charity said.

Grice, a senior center and co-captain, likely sustained the injury during Hawai'i's 64-53 victory over visiting San Jose State Saturday, Charity said. Grice wore a medical boot on her left leg, and was on crutches yesterday, according to ESPN 1420 Radio announcer Kevin Hashiro.

It's not guaranteed that Grice will be able to play Saturday at Boise State. She may be available for the WAC Tournament, March 6 to 10, at Las Cruces, N.M., Charity said.

"If we can play her Saturday, we will," Charity said. "But we may wait until we get to the WAC and try to play her."

Hawai'i is 7-0 since Grice returned to the starting lineup Jan. 29. Grice is also recovering from a herniated disc in her back that forced her to miss a 70-49 victory over visiting San Francisco Dec. 29.
