The state Department of Transportation and the Transportation Security Administration were to install a new Lihu'e Airport security checkpoint lane overnight last night.

It is scheduled to be operational today.

To create space for the new lane, the exit area alongside the checkpoints is being removed, and airport users will be allowed to exit at baggage claim areas at either end of the airport terminal.

The airport also plans additional checkpoints at baggage claim exits for peak travel periods. Longer-term projects include expanded baggage claim areas and larger baggage carousels.
