Take a cultural journey with UH film showcase

Documentaries, personality profiles and the acclaimed "The Land Has Eyes" are part of the University of Hawai'i's Cinema Series' Hawaii Filmmakers Summer Showcase, launching Sunday.
The films screen at 5 p.m. Sundays — except for Aug. 12, summer graduation day — through Aug. 26 at UH-Manoa's Spalding Auditorium. Admission is $5 general, $3 for UH students, faculty and staff. Information: 223-0130.

Documentary focuses on the lush, natural beauty of the Islands, and the Native Hawaiians who have reconnected with their culture and the land. A Honolulu premiere. With filmmaker Zak.

Produced for Earthjustice, this film considers local experimentation with genetic engineering of crops.

Kris Kristofferson narrates and the late Gardner McKay co-wrote this story of the pilgrimage into Tibet by flutist Paul Horn and Maui's Lama Tenzin.
