Honolulu's Stephanie Kono and Ayaka Kaneko won't be back at the U.S. Women's Open in two weeks after failing to advance from the Rockville, Md., sectional, which ended Tuesday.
The largest sectional advanced 37 players, including Turtle Bay touring pro Dorothy Delasin, who shared ninth at 141.
Jennifer Song, an amateur from South Korea who was medalist at Hawai'i's local qualifier, was one of 11 to advance out of the Daly City Sectional, with a 151 total.
A year ago, four Hawai'i teenagers played at the U.S. Open. Former Hilo resident Kimberly Kim and recent Punahou graduate Michelle Wie should be back. Kim, 15, qualified by winning last year's U.S. Women's Amateur. Wie tied for third last year to earn her exemption.
South Korean Amy Yang won Hawai'i's sectional Monday at Turtle Bay.
Alexis Thompson, of Florida, became the youngest U.S. Women's Open qualifier in history. At 12 years, 4 months and 1 day, Thompson beat the previous record of Morgan Pressel, who was 12 years, 11 months and 21 days old when she qualified for the 2001 Women's Open.
The Open begins June 28 at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
