The HSJGA has received one of eight sponsor exemptions to the 2007 Wal-Mart First Tee Open, an official Champions Tour event. HSJGA's tournament point standings will be one of the criteria used to award the exemption. The tournament will be at Pebble Beach Golf Course in California, Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.
The tournament pairs one junior with a Champions Tour player and two amateurs. There are 78 junior spots awarded, with 10 advancing from regional qualifiers, 60 from a golf and life skills selection event and eight exemptions from the host organization, Monterey Peninsula Foundation.
One HSJGA member will qualify for the exemption based on the official HSJGA point list as of Aug. 5, using the 15-18 list for boys and 13-18 list for girls.
First Tee, founded in 1997, is an initiative of the World Golf Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Its mission is to promote character development and life-enhancing values in young people through golf. It provides educational programs and over 250 learning facilities.
