Bob Nash's contract should be signed soon, both the University of Hawai'i basketball coach and athletic director Herman Frazier said yesterday.

"It is probably in his hands (now)," Frazier said.

Frazier said they had an agreement in principle when Nash was named to succeed Riley Wallace April 13, but "we were only waiting for some language from the union to be put in there."

"I'm just waiting to (sign) it," said Nash, who was overseeing his first UH summer camp as head coach yesterday. "As soon as I read it. I just didn't have time. (There's) no problems with the contract."

Frazier has said that they have agreed upon a three-year deal paying "north of $200,000" per year, with raises and incentives and options at the end of each season, pending a performance evaluation.

Nash said he did not use an agent during negotiations and will review the contract himself.

"I graduated from the University of Hawai'i," Nash said. "I'm smart enough to be able to do those things on my own. So, I'm doing it on my own."

Frazier said it is up to Nash to decide when contracts will be tendered to his coaching staff. Jackson Wheeler, whose contract as associate head coach runs through June 30, will be retained. Nash has to fill two positions — the job he held last year and the one held by Alika Smith, who was not retained as assistant coach.

Eran Ganot, who has served as director of operations for the basketball team, was the only other member of the staff working Nash's camp yesterday and is expected to be tendered a position.

Frazier has said he has seen a draft of the contract that will be offered to football coach June Jones, who soon will enter the final year of his five-year contract. Frazier has not set a timetable to start negotiations with Jones and has declined to say whether a deal could be done before the 2007 season starts Sept. 1.

Jones has said he will not comment publicly on his contract talks.

FRAZIER SAYS 2008 SCHEDULE FINALIZED

A week after the 2007 football schedule was announced as final at 12 games, Frazier said the 2008 slate also has been concluded.

The Warriors have one opening, and Frazier said, "I'm waiting for the contract before I announce it."

It is expected to be a Division I-AA opponent and could be placed between the Aug. 30, 2008, opener at Florida and the Sept. 13 game at Oregon State.

"I'm going to play a I-AA every year," Frazier said. "Take that for granted."

The 2007 schedule includes two I-AA teams. He said "that's not our intent" to play more than one I-AA team during a season in future years.

WASHINGTON WILL GET $350,000 FOR '07 GAME

The contract for UH's regular-season finale against Washington Dec. 1, 2007, at Aloha Stadium has been concluded. It calls for UH to play a Sept. 10, 2011, return game at Seattle, UH said.

The Huskies will receive a $350,000 guarantee for the game, one of the largest cash payments made by UH to an opponent.

UH has traditionally offered opponents the choice of cash or a package that includes airfare, lodging, cash and tickets. The Huskies chose cash, and the contract calls for them to receive $50,000 more than cross-state rival Washington State will receive for its Nov. 29, 2008, appearance at Aloha Stadium.

Wisconsin is contracted to receive $265,000 for its 2009 appearance.
