A 21-year-old man who allegedly fired gunshots into a crowd — hitting one man — during a drunken melee in a Wai'anae park after a Sunday graduation party was charged yesterday.
Joshua T. Gualdarama was charged with first-degree criminal property damage, possession of a loaded weapon, first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment, and second-degree assault.
He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for tomorrow in O'ahu District Court.
In 2006, Gualdarama was convicted on a charge of being a minor in possession of alcohol, according to the Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center.
Gualdarama and another man were arrested early Sunday in front of an Alohiki Street home in Wai'anae on suspicion of first-degree assault in connection with an early-morning shooting at nearby Pilila'au Park.
Police said a 24-year-old man, identified in court papers as Charles Kipilii, was shot in the stomach about 4:30 a.m. by a gunman in a Lincoln Navigator.
The wounded man drove himself to the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Heath Center and was later taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was reported in guarded condition.
According to police, the two men arrested were involved in an argument with another group of men at the park following a graduation party, at 85-166 Plantation Road.
Gualdarama allegedly fired several shots into the air on two occasions during the argument, police said.
The opposing group responded by throwing bottles at the sport utility vehicle. Gualdarama allegedly stood on its running board and fired at the group from about 60 feet away with a .22-caliber handgun, with one shot wounding the victim.
The SUV drove away and was found by police at about 5 a.m.
Police arrested a 25-year-old man, who they said was driving the Navigator with Gualdarama inside.
An eyewitness who was at the scene of the shooting later identified Gualdarama as the gunman, according to court documents.
