Lender looks to banking veteran

Credit union industry veteran Baron Nakamura will head up the new Hawai'i office of Member Business Lending LLC, a provider of small-business loans.
MBL provides credit union-based loans originated by the Small Business Administration.
Nakamura has extensive experience in the financial services industry, having held senior positions with Pearl Harbor Federal Credit Union, University of Hawaii Federal Credit Union and, most recently, Honolulu Federal Credit Union. He also worked for Central Pacific Bank and Bank of Hawaii, as well as other finance and savings and loan institutions in Hawai'i.
ENTREPRENEUR IS SMALL-BIZ CHAMP
The National Federation of Independent Business has named Honolulu entrepreneur Harvey King as its Small Business Champion of the Year.
King is the co-founder and president of King & Neel, which provides risk-management programs, insurance and surety bonding for construction and commercial businesses. King has run the firm since 1967.
King was selected for the award by the NFIB Hawai'i chapter's Leadership Council. The award honors businesses that "go the extra mile" for mom-and-pop enterprises, the organization said.
WANT TO BECOME AN 'AMBASSADOR'?
The Visitor Aloha Society of Hawai'i will sponsor its next volunteer training session from 9 a.m. to noon June 23 in the board room of the Hawai'i Convention Center.
The free training prepares participants to help in the "Ambassador of Aloha" program. Volunteers learn to help visitors who need emergency assistance while visiting O'ahu. The society welcomes everyone and is especially in need of those who speak Japanese, Chinese, Korean, French, German or Spanish.
Those interested must reserve a spot in the training. The society helps visitors with a variety of issues, including crime victims and their families.
