BYUH leader retiring June 23

The president of Brigham Young University-Hawai'i is retiring after a 41-year career at the school.
Eric B. Shumway, who joined the school's faculty in 1966 and became its president in 1994, will leave the post June 23, school officials said.
Shumway, a scholar of English literature and the Tongan language, has accepted a three-year assignment as president of the Latter-day Saints Temple in Nuku'alofa.
A new president, whose name has not been released, will be announced tomorrow and meet faculty and students Thursday, school officials said. He will be installed as president during BYU-Hawai'i's commencement exercises June 23.
Correction: The retiring president of Brigham Young University-Hawai'i is Eric B. Shumway. His last name was misspelled in a previous version of this story.
