TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"TV's Funniest Moments," 7 p.m., Fox. Let's give Fox some credit: It has ended the tyranny of summer reruns. This is its sixth straight night — all in what's considered the summer season — that is rerun-free. Tonight has this special from the Museum of Television and Radio, zipping through TV's 30 funniest moments. There will be some from the early days, including "I Love Lucy" and "The Honeymooners." There will be the more-topical moments that followed, including "All in the Family" and "In Living Color." Presumably, there will also be some modern moments. We'd be surprised if the night ends without "Seinfeld," "The Simpsons" and late-night shows.

OF NOTE

"Inside the Actors Studio," 4 p.m.; "The Godfather" (1972), 6 p.m., both Bravo. First, watch Al Pacino discussing his career. Then catch him in a masterwork. "Godfather" is an epic mob story, superbly written, directed (by Francis Coppola) and acted.

"Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. After his death, a major league baseball player wants one more chance. His spirit invades a high school star.

"Gladiator" (2000, TNT) or "Pirates of the Caribbean" (2003, USA Network), both 8 p.m. It's definitely a fine movie night. "Gladiator" is an epic adventure with a personal tragedy at its core; "Pirates" is just fun. They get great work from Russell Crowe and Johnny Depp, respectively.

"Close to Home," 8 p.m., CBS. An athlete dies at a victory party. Was it an accident or murder by a teammate? And what is the coach (Greg Evigan) hiding?

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 8 p.m., NBC. A former child star has been killed. Logan and Wheeler find links to drugs, counterfeit DVDs, the Albanian mob and another former child star.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. An 8-year-old girl is killed when walking by a brownstone that exploded. Now there's an effort to prove it was arson, then add a murder charge.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. Men are apparently being killed after being lured by an Internet chat room promising sex with underage girls.
