Accessory line caters to haute dogs

Just when we thought we'd seen the ultimate in Island pampered pooches, what with custom aloha wear, canine spa products and Cocojor cooling vests, along comes Chow Mane.
The elegant, high-end line of pillows, leashes and collars for Fido is the brainchild of Mililani entrepreneur Sommer Meyer, creator of Closet Fetish. She calls the line "accessories for the feng-shui pet."
Meyer designed the line last Christmas, after she returned from a business trip in Hong Kong with yards of Chinese silk brocade. She covered her three Rottweillers' beds with the brocade and used the excess to make beds and accessories for friends' canines for Christmas. They were a hit — so much so that she decided to turn her energy in a new direction: the canine customer.
She launched the collection with 10 brocades in brilliant hues, each of which sports a memorable name such as "One Night in Bangkok," "Madame Butterfly" and "Red Dragon." The collars come in four sizes, the beds in three. These are not for any dog on the street. At $85 for collar and leash and $95 to $285 for the beds, they are more like canine couture. Sold at Red Pineapple in Ward Centre.
