Four-in-one film festival for kids at UH-Manoa

“Mare Capoeira” will be shown tomorrow as part of the Kids First! film festival.

Four short films comprise the Kids Foreign Film Fest, aimed at those 8 and older, as part of the Kids First! film festival at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa Art Auditorium. Total running time: 103 minutes. The films (all subtitled in English, and free) are:

  • "Mare Capoeira," in Portuguese. The history of capoeira is seen through the eyes of 10-year-old Jao.

  • "Peur Hoi Nang Rom (For the Oysters)," in Thai. A boy is smitten with a classmate.

  • "Binta y la Gran Idea (Binta and the Great Idea)," in Dioula/French. Binta's dad has an idea to make the world a better place.

  • "My Backyard Was a Mountain," in Spanish. Adan must find a home for his pet goat before his family moves to a big city.
