Hawaii athletes also excelled in classroom

Hawai'i student-athletes had successful years in the classroom.
The following students were named to the Mountain West Conference Academic All-Conference team for the spring semester:
New Mexico junior baseball player Chad Itokazu (Pearl City '03) earned a 3.09 GPA in business administration.
Brigham Young sophomore baseball player Kasey Ko (Punahou '06) earned a 3.27 GPA in exercise science.
Utah freshman basketball player Hennasea Tokumura ('Iolani '06) earned a 3.49 GPA and is undecided.
Utah junior volleyball player Lacey Lavarias (Iolani '04 of Waialua) was named to the MWC Scholar-Athlete squad for the 2006-07 school year. She earned a 3.88 GPA in parks, recreation and tourism.
NORTHWEST CONFERENCE
The following student-athletes earned Northwest Conference All-Academic honors for the 2006-07 school year:
Pacific senior soccer player Derek Atta ('Aiea '02) earned a 3.653 GPA in exercise science.
Puget Sound junior cross country and track and field runner Kelly Higa (Iolani '04 of Kane'ohe) is a business major.
Willamette junior tennis player Tiffany Kam (Punahou of Honolulu) is a biology major.
Linfield freshman swimmer Yusuke Kobayashi (Kaiser '06 of Honolulu) earned a 3.51 GPA and is undecided.
Whitworth junior soccer player Brent Murakami (Mililani '04) earned a 3.86 GPA in marketing.
Whitworth junior soccer player Erin Nakasone (Mililani) earned a 3.710 GPA and is undecided.
Willamette sophomore right-handed pitcher Kelsey Nakata (Mililani '05) earned a 3.52 GPA in exercise science.
Puget Sound freshman baseball player Jarvis Nohara ('Iolani '06) is a business major.
Pacific senior soccer player Stacey Sueoka (Kaua'i of Koloa) earned a 3.706 GPA in physics.
Puget Sound freshman volleyball player Leigh Sumida ('Iolani '06 of Kane'ohe) is undecided.
Pacific freshman soccer player Cheryl Yasumoto (Pearl City '06) earned a 3.681 GPA and is undecided.
Pacific freshman tennis player Jamie Yoshino (Kaiser '06) earned a 3.807 GPA and is undecided.
COMMITMENTS
Kasy'e Lalau, who attended Kapolei High before transferring to Patch High School in Germany, is looking into attending Hawai'i Pacific or Hawai'i-Hilo.
Lalau, a softball, volleyball and basketball player, was named the Department of Defense Dependent Schools Europe Female Athlete of the Year.
Kamehameha alum Kawika Kalawe, who spent the past two years playing football for San Jose City College, signed with Bethany College.
Kalawe was an all-Coast Conference honorable-mention selection at quarterback.
