Prosecutors have charged a Wahiawa man with attempted second-degree murder in connection with the June 22 beating and stabbing of a man in Waialua.

Steven Ray Bihag, 36, was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Bihag was arrested Friday at 7:20 p.m. by Wahiawa Crime Reduction Unit officers.

Bihag, who has 19 convictions according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records, is the second person charged and the fourth arrested in the ongoing attempted-murder investigation.

Thomas Lee Manijo, 45, was charged with attempted second-degree murder Wednesday and was also being held on $100,000 bail.

They are accused of beating and stabbing a 32-year-old man and leaving him to die in an abandoned sugar cane field on Cane Haul Road off Waialua Beach Road. A passer-by walking his dogs discovered the injured man in the brush.

According to a police report filed at district court, the victim was taken to an area on Cane Haul Road known as "Long Bridge" and beaten by several people.

Police suspect the attack was drug-related.

The victim was slapped in the face and struck on the back of his head with a stick wrapped in tape, police said. He fled from his attackers and tried to hide in the cane field, but they found him.

The man was beaten and slashed. According to the police report, he recalled one of the men saying "kill him now," before he lost consciousness.

A 34-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man were arrested and later released pending further investigation.
