Honolulu police charged Tyler Aaron Condon yesterday with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of his cousin on Wednesday.
Condon, 22, was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Early Wednesday, neighbors found Jake Ira Hale, 28, bleeding and calling for help outside an 'Ewa Beach townhouse. Hale was stabbed in the torso, officials said.
Before he died, Hale told witnesses and a responding police officer that his cousin had stabbed him, court documents released yesterday said. He identified Condon by name.
Meanwhile, witnesses said they saw Condon fleeing the scene in a four-door white Buick. As he sped away, Condon hit another car in the Palm Villas II parking structure, police said.
Police reviewed surveillance tapes of Condon fleeing the scene to positively identify him, court documents said.
On Thursday, police found the Buick that Condon had used to flee the scene abandoned in Wahiawa. Later the same day, a witness to the stabbing called police after spotting Condon at a 7-Eleven store in Wahiawa on Kamehameha Highway near Kilani Avenue.
In court documents, Wahiawa officer Bryce Kim said Condon was at a pay phone at the store and was arrested without incident about 6:40 p.m. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of a hand injury before he was booked.
Police have yet to cite a motive in the stabbing.
Hale's death is the 14th homicide in Honolulu so far this year, compared to 18 for all of 2006.
