The Honolulu Advertiser announced management changes Friday that will strengthen its transformation into Hawai'i's Information Center, including 24/7 news, video, community sites and further areas being planned.

Vice President-Editor Mark Platte promoted Marsha McFadden to managing editor for content and Sandra S. Oshiro to managing editor for digital and multimedia.

Editorial and Opinion Editor Jeanne Mariani-Belding will continue to lead the revamped editorial pages with greater emphasis on interaction with the public through town halls and forums, "The Hot Seat" blog and other initiatives.

Assistant Managing Editor Stephen Downes becomes database and special projects editor and will oversee the creation of an extensive searchable database, including calendar listings, school test scores and other information. Downes will continue to handle corrections for The Advertiser and lead its visual team.

Business Editor David Butts is promoted to local news editor and will oversee a combined desk of metro and business reporters to provide more local news online and in print.

News Editor Steven Petranik is elevated to 24/7-news editor and will be in charge of updating breaking news coverage. He will continue to direct the production of the newspaper.

Photo Editor Seth Jones becomes multimedia editor and will lead The Advertiser's photography, video and graphics departments.

"We are transforming the newsroom's concentration on print to a focus that maintains the quality of the newspaper and expands our online presence," Platte said. "This exceptionally talented team of managers will help us get there."

The changes are effective immediately.
