After 20 years in New York, Hiro and Hidemi Yamamoto (he's a photographer, she's a makeup artist and stylist) moved to O'ahu four years ago. The aesthetes found if they wanted cool stuff for their new digs, they had to get them in Tokyo and Manhattan. "We said 'Why don't we just open a store?' " explained Hiro, who has an office in Tokyo. So they did. FLATTER FEST

Who doesn't love to sing along to "Santeria" while swigging a beer? Local bands know that if they want to keep the audience happy, they have to be ready with a good set of well-known tunes. On Friday, four bands will take the cover song to another level with Cova' a Brotha'. Instead of playing CCR or Guns N' Roses, local greats Missing Dave, below, Pimpbot, The Crud and Busekrus will play each other's original songs. STORY OF O

Hawai'i hip-hop phenom Krystilez kicks off his sophomore album, "The O," with a party on Saturday at Pipeline Cafe. The CD's masterful mix of mainstream and underground sounds reflects Krystilez's more than 10 years of music-making experience.
