Master-teacher of koto music ready for Hawai'i debut

Koto, one of the main instruments of Japanese traditional music, is a kind of zither, played in ensemble and solo. Monami Shishikura, a shihan (master-teacher) of Japanese soukyoku (koto music) and a graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, will make her Hawai'i debut recital with music for koto and shamisen at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Orvis Auditorium, University of Hawai'i-Manoa.
