Taco Del Mar to open 2 outlets

Taco Del Mar is scheduled to open two new restaurants on O'ahu as the chain continues its expansion in Hawai'i.

The new outlets, opening Jan. 29 in the Moanalua Shopping Center and early March in the Laniakea Shopping Center in Waipi'o, will be operated by franchisee Baja Hawaii LLC. James Butler, president of Baja Hawaii, said he plans to open from six to 10 Taco Del Mar locations on the island.

Taco Del Mar arrived in Hawai'i last year, opening restaurants in the Kunia Shopping Center and in Kapolei.


HMSA TO HOLD JOB FAIR JAN. 29

The Hawaii Medical Service Association has scheduled a job fair Jan. 29 to recruit workers for a range of positions, including administrative, clerical, claims processing and information systems.

COURT SIDES WITH IBM ON PENSIONS

After almost eight years, IBM has won the final round in a fight over its decision to stop offering traditional pensions to most of its U.S. workers.

The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday declined to hear an appeal by a former IBM employee who argued that the computer giant discriminated against her and 140,000 other workers when it switched to cash-balance pensions in 1999.


$400,000 AWARD IN FLIGHT PROFILING

BOSTON — A federal jury has awarded $400,000 to a Miami man who sued American Airlines Inc. claiming racial discrimination after he was removed from a flight before it departed Logan International Airport.

John Cerqueira, a 39-year-old computer consultant who was born in Portugal, and two Israeli men in his row were removed from a flight bound for Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Dec. 28, 2003. His suit claimed that flight personnel cited him as a security risk because he looked similar to the Israelis.
